Hydrocap is a technology provider in the emerging marine renewable energy sector.
Through the development of proprietary technologies under the Seacap patent, the company is designing and developing a Wave Energy Converter. The company also offers various wind and solar energy solutions (through its subsidiary Windcap Energy) as well as technical assistance and expert services in the offshore technologies.
Located in Brittany on the University campus of Technopôle Brest-Iroise, Hydrocap has collaborated since its inception in 2004 with several industrial and academic partners, under the guidance and impetus of its founders, who benefit from a wealth of experience gained in the offshore oil & gas industry
An innovative concept whose principle is to capture the wave energy by means of a buoy travelling vertically around a pole (Archimedes force), and an energy conversion module benefiting from the latest high power control and energy production technologies.
The conjunction of these systems forms a platform which may be adapted to several renewable energy sources and may in addition support other secondary energy production systems (Hydrogen, Algo-fuels reactors, for example) or, support activities in relation with fisheries, environmental data acquisition, and activities broadly associated with the coastline.
A number of platforms would combine to constitute "marine farms" totalizing several dozens or even up to a hundred MW depending on the environmental parameters of the site.
